What Is Biodiesel?
Biodiesel is a type of diesel fuel obtained from vegetable oils, yellow grease, used cooking oils or animal fats. The fuel is produced by transesterification—a process that converts fats and oils into biodiesel and glycerin (a coproduct).
Approximately 45 kgs of oil or fat are reacted with 4.5 kgs of a short-chain alcohol (usually methanol) in the presence of a catalyst (usually sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide) to form 45 kgs of biodiesel and 4.5 kgs of glycerin. Glycerin, a co-product, is a sugar commonly used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel similar to conventional or ‘fossil’ diesel. Although Biodiesel is better than regular diesel

Why is biodiesel important
1) Biodegradable and Renewable Fuel.
2) Safer to use and has low toxicity compared to fossil diesel fuel.
3) Lower exhaust emission rate than normal diesel fuel.

What is the main use of biodiesel?
Biodiesel is a domestically produced, clean-burning, renewable substitute for petroleum diesel. Using biodiesel as a vehicle fuel improves public health and the environment, provides safety benefits, and contributes to a resilient transportation system.

What is B100 in biodiesel?
B100 biodiesel (100% biodiesel) is an EPA -registered fuel and fuel additive designed as a blend stock for use in blending with petroleum diesel

Who is the inventor of biodiesel?
Rudolf Diesel, the inventor of the diesel engine in 1897, experimented with using vegetable oil as fuel in his engines. The fuel made from vegetable oils and animal fats that we call biodiesel today is named after him because it is mostly used in diesel engines (as is petroleum diesel fuel).

Glycerin as a by product
Biodiesel production will generate about 10% (w/w) glycerol as the main byproduct. Glycerin, is a simple triol compound. It is a colorless, odorless and viscous liquid that is sweet-tasting and non-toxic. The glycerol backbone is found in lipids known as glycerides. As it has antimicrobial and antiviral properties, it is widely used in pharmaceutical industry. It is also widely used as a sweetener in the food industry.

What are the benefits of Biodiesel?
Biodiesel has many environmentally benefits. The main benefit of biodiesel is that it is ‘carbon neutral’. This means that the fuel produces no net output of carbon in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2). This effect occurs when the oil crop grows it absorbs the same amount of CO2 as is released when the fuel is combusted

Raw materials as feedstock for Biodiesel production
Animal tallow:
It is a rendered form of fat which includes beef tallow, pork lard, and chicken fat which is an increasingly attractive feedstock option for biodiesel manufacturers due to its availability, comparatively low cost, and high cetane number (an important quality parameter for diesel fuel).

Used Cooking Oil (UCO):
Sometimes referred to as waste cooking oil – refers to oils and fats that have been used for cooking or frying in the food processing industry, restaurants, and households. It can originate from both waste vegetable oil and animal fats
The quality of UCO is critical to its transformation into biofuels, and is impacted by a range of factors including the cooking oil collection method. The main challenge in using UCOs as a renewable energy resource is their content in impurities like free fatty acid and water. Even in small amounts, fatty acids can cause problems to occur in transesterification.

What we do?
We are originally a company with 60 years background in Edible oil refinery and crushing oilseeds. Now and as a part of K.T.Co, we are active in Biodiesel trading and production.
In Biodiesel division, we are trading UCO, Tallow and Acid oil in the region, while we are planning to establish a 50MT/day production facility.
